Bengaluru Airport to Whitefield, Electronic City and the IT Corridors: Buses, Cabs, Real Journey Times and Where to Sleep
Most business travellers into Bengaluru are not going to the city centre at all; they are going to Whitefield, Electronic City, the Outer Ring Road or Manyata, and those are the longest journeys from the airport. Whitefield and Electronic City are 90 minutes to two hours by cab and up to two and a half hours in the evening peak; the KIA-4A and KIA-8 Vayu Vajra buses serve them directly; and Hebbal and Manyata are the only tech hubs under 40 minutes away. Below is each corridor with its bus, its cab fare and its real timing, plus the calculation of when an airport hotel wins. Verified September 2026.
Whitefield and ITPL
Whitefield is about 55 km from the airport, reached via Hebbal and the Outer Ring Road through KR Puram, or via the Budigere road from the airport’s east side, which cabs use when the ring road is jammed. Outside the peaks it is 90 minutes to two hours; on a weekday evening it can pass two and a half. The KIA-4A Vayu Vajra bus runs from both terminals to Whitefield TTMC via Marathahalli, Mahadevapura and ITPL from about 4:30 am to 11 pm for around 320 to 380 rupees, and KIA-6 serves Kadugodi and Hope Farm. Cabs run 1,500 to 2,000 rupees. The airport operator is building an eastern tunnel access road to cut the Whitefield approach, due in 2027; until then, the morning run out of Whitefield to the airport before 6 am is the easy direction and the evening run in is the hard one.
Electronic City and the southern corridor
Electronic City is 50 km south across the whole width of the city, and the KIA-8 bus is the practical answer: 24 hours a day from both terminals via Hebbal, Marathahalli, Bellandur, Silk Board and Hosa Road to Electronic City Phase 1, about 350 to 400 rupees and two to two and a half hours, every 30 to 60 minutes overnight. KIA-8A serves BTM Layout, KIA-7 and 7A HSR Layout and Koramangala, and KIA-15 Bannerghatta Road. A cab is 1,500 to 2,000 rupees and 90 minutes to two hours outside the peaks. The Yellow Line metro from RV Road to Bommasandra serves Electronic City, but it starts in the south of the city and does not touch the airport, so it is useful for the last leg from Majestic and the Green Line rather than as an airport link.
Outer Ring Road, Marathahalli and Bellandur
The tech parks along the Outer Ring Road between Marathahalli and Sarjapur Road, including Bellandur and the Sarjapur Road campuses, are on the KIA-8, KIA-8A and KIA-8D bus routes and 60 to 90 minutes from the airport by cab outside the peaks, roughly 1,200 to 1,600 rupees. The KIA-8D runs to Sarjapur Road and the Wipro gate. This corridor is where the evening peak bites hardest, since the ring road carries both the airport traffic and the office traffic; a 6 pm arrival should plan on two hours to Bellandur.
Hebbal and Manyata: the close ones
Hebbal is 25 to 35 minutes from the terminals on the elevated airport road and is on nearly every Vayu Vajra route for about 170 to 200 rupees; Manyata Tech Park at Nagawara is 10 minutes beyond it by cab or on the routes that come in via Thanisandra. For meetings at Manyata, Kirloskar Business Park or the Hebbal offices, a hotel in Hebbal is a real alternative to the airport hotels and a shorter run than anything else in this guide, at 600 to 900 rupees by cab from the terminals. The Blue Line metro, when it opens towards 2028, will run exactly this way, with stations at Hebbal and Nagawara before the airport.
Airport hotel or office hotel
The calculation is about the arrival hour. A flight landing after 9 pm puts you in Whitefield or Electronic City after midnight; a room at the Bloom Hotel or the Moxy in Devanahalli and a 6 am cab gets you to the office at 7:30 rested, and the Moxy’s free long-term parking suits anyone leaving a car. For a single meeting at Manyata or Hebbal, the Taj Bangalore on the campus and a 30-minute cab each way is quicker than any city hotel. For two or more working days, stay by the office and make the airport run once, before 6 am, when even Whitefield to the terminals takes an hour. The airport to city guide covers the centre and the hotel transfers guide the cabs from each hotel.
Tips
Ask the cab driver to avoid the Outer Ring Road after 5 pm and take the Budigere road for Whitefield or the Thanisandra road for Hebbal. On the buses, sit on the left for the Hebbal flyover views and keep bags in the hold, not the aisle. For a 6 am flight from Electronic City, the overnight KIA-8 at 2:30 am is more reliable than an app cab at 3 am. And if the meeting is at 9 am in Whitefield and the flight lands at 10 pm, book Devanahalli and sleep; the terminal guide tells you which forecourt the morning cab needs.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take from Bengaluru Airport to Whitefield?
90 minutes to two hours by cab or on the KIA-4A bus outside the peaks, 55 km via Hebbal and the Outer Ring Road or the Budigere road, and up to two and a half hours between 5 pm and 9 pm on weekdays. A cab costs about 1,500 to 2,000 rupees. An eastern tunnel road to shorten the Whitefield run is planned for 2027.
How do I get from Bengaluru Airport to Electronic City?
The KIA-8 Vayu Vajra bus runs 24 hours via Hebbal, Marathahalli, Bellandur and Silk Board for about 350 to 400 rupees and takes two to two and a half hours; a cab is 1,500 to 2,000 rupees and 90 minutes to two hours. The Yellow Line metro from RV Road reaches Electronic City, but it does not connect to the airport, so it helps only from the south of the city.
Is there a direct bus from the airport to Manyata Tech Park or Hebbal?
Hebbal is on almost every Vayu Vajra route and is 25 to 35 minutes from the terminals for about 170 to 200 rupees; Manyata Tech Park at Nagawara is a short cab from there or on routes that run via Thanisandra. It is the one tech hub close enough to make a hotel there a real alternative to the airport hotels.
Should I stay at the airport or near my office in Whitefield?
If your meeting is the morning after a late arrival, an airport hotel and an early cab is the reliable version: leaving Devanahalli at 6 am beats leaving the airport at 11 pm and arriving in Whitefield at 1 am. If you have two or more working days, stay near the office and do the airport run once, early in the morning.
